Erroneous CP14 Balance Due Notices

Taxpayers are incorrectly receiving balance-due notices from the IRS even though they don’t actually have anything due.

What is happening is the payment on a 2023 return has been made either electronically or by check, and processed through the bank, but is showing in the IRS as “pending” and thus the CP14 notice is incorrectly issued.

The IRS has said if you get this notice but are paid in, ignore the notice and the IRS is working on the back-end to resolve the issue.
